Meet Chris & Randi Elston. Highschool sweethearts & married for 20 years. A country boy & a city (turned country) girl. Chris & Randi are first generation (show)pig farmers along with their daughters Preslea & Rylea. While there’s always been a pull towards gardening & farm animals, a trip with Preslea & Rylea to watch their peers show their pigs at the county junior livestock show about 7 years ago changed the trajectory of all of their lives as they now have a small scale show-pig breeding program for & managed by the girls as part of their 4-H Swine Projects. As the Texas 4-H Motto says, “To make the best better”, better is what they’re trying to do in everything they pursue.
Between an enormous amount of time pursuing all things pigs, 4-H, etc., they became a homeschooling family in 2022, allowing them to focus on special areas of interest, education & skills needed for life. In addition to pigs, the Elston family raises chickens, dorper sheep crosses, and some mini-cattle zebu crosses including the family milk cow, Claudia.
They’re big on fresh, quality food (processing & preserving), healthy animals, trying to be good stewards of the land, empowering others to take ownership of their children’s education & sharing information that has helped them along the way. Here you’ll find their thoughts, victories, life lessons, recipes, and probably a little bit of everything in between. Welcome to the farm!
