This gilt won the LOPB’s at the 2026 Erath County Junior Livestock Show, Championed & Reserved (in her breed) multiple jackpots through the Fall, and penned & placed at all the other majors. Her 12 o’clock moment was Houston.
We raised this gilt’s dam, who was the 2025 Texas Nationals Champion Chester Breeding Gilt, 1st in her class in both 2025 San Angelo Gilt Shows, and 4th overall Chester Gilt in the 2025 San Angelo Junior Stars show, making the sale and was purchased by Jim & Beverly Cogburn of C-4 Showpigs.
After she sold, we promised Preslea we’d drive down the moment their barn opened (I think we were actually 1st in line) so she could go pick something from that litter. And she did. She picked all of her projects herself this year, drove all over with her sister and friends, and then took us back to tell/show us the potential she saw in them.
This win is 9 years in the making. 9 YEARS y’all & never a breed banner at a Texas major until her Senior Year. It’s not just her win, it’s a family win. It’s progress, persistence, & patience. It’s culling the breeding herd when it’s time & always trying to do better. It’s lots of phone calls, videos and texts asking others for 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions, feed advice, etc. It’s people feeding & caring for the animals back at home when you’re on the road. It’s often more time in the barn than with your friends, which is ok, because most of your friends are also in their barns. It’s seeing the fruits of your labor, and that in never ever giving up, that anything is possible.
Also, this girl finished 6th out of 187 in Senior Showmanship at Houston. 2 Grand Drives. 👏🏻 It’s not lost on us that the majority of show kids will never get that opportunity. Preslea will embark on college soon & pass the torch to Rylea. It’s the end of an era in our barn and the beginning of a new one.
